What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is simply a deeply relaxed state that involves physical relaxation and focused concentration. You unknowingly experience this natural state every day. It is just a way of tuning out distracting thoughts, and focusing your attention, just as you do when you're daydreaming, or when totally absorbed in a film, book, TV program, favorite hobby, or even when driving your car.

Hypnosis works by changing your state of consciousness through physical and mental relaxation techniques. This allows you to work with the subconscious mind, where motivations for behavior can be examined, and where positive motivational suggestions can be introduced.  You are aware and remember everything that is said during a hypnosis session, and you will remember everything that happens during the session. You will only act upon suggestions that are acceptable to you, and you can not be made to do anything against your will.  There has never been a substantiated case of harm befalling any hypnotized subject.  The British Medical Association approved hypnotherapy as a valid medical treatment in 1955 and the American Medical Association followed in 1958.
